Dear Groom ISD Community,
On August 17, 2026, the Groom ISD Board of Trustees voted to order a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) for November 3, 2026. The election will ask voters to consider whether the District may adopt a tax rate of $1.1514 per $100 of taxable value.
Groom ISD receives funding from state and local sources. In developing the proposed tax rate and budget, the District considered its projected revenue and operating expenses, including utilities, fuel, safety requirements, staffing, and other costs. The District’s budget and supporting financial information are available at Groom ISD Business Office.
If the proposition is approved, the District projects that the proposed tax rate will generate approximately $210,000 in additional local and state revenue for the 2026- 2027 fiscal year. The proposed tax rate includes enrichment pennies commonly referred to as “golden pennies.” Based on the District’s current calculations, revenue attributable to those pennies is not subject to recapture. The additional revenue is included in the District’s current financial planning for:
● Employee compensation and staffing;
● Academic and extracurricular programs; and
● Safety, security, and technology expenditures.
If the proposition is not approved, the District projects a budget deficit of approximately $277,000 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The Board has not made final decisions regarding any resulting budget adjustments. Any future budget decisions will be considered and acted upon by the Board in accordance with applicable law.
We encourage all residents to stay informed.
Go Tigers!
